Common scalp problems

The most common scalp problems are:

  • Dandruff: Dandruff is the most common scalp problem caused primarily due to greasy scalp where scalp sheds skin cells in quick succession.
  • Dry scalp: Dry scalp is primarily caused due to environmental factors. It could also be caused due to action of chemicals used for styling hairs. Depletion of moisture which is caused due to above reasons causes scalp to go dry.
  • Oily scalp: Overproduction of sebum is the cause for oily scalp. Sebum is produced by the oil glands in the scalp. Inadequate rinsing of hair is the other cause for oily scalp.

To determine if your scalp is in good condition or not, follow the below steps:

  • Examine the visible area of your scalp by pressing each side of parting.
  • A healthy scalp is supple.
  • Verify the color of your scalp skin. It should be of the same color as your complexion.
  • Move fingertips on your scalp.
  • If your fingers moves easily on your scalp the your scalp is in good condition.
  • An unhealthy scalp will be tense and pliable.
