Laser hair removal is one of the techniques, which gives a permanent hair removal. A specialized i.e. laser light is emitted at a specified wavelength on the hairs in this technique. These lights are absorbed by the hair follicles. The hairs fall out due to this as the light acts on melanin and damages it in the hair follicle. This technique is quite safe but there are advantages and disadvantages attached to it too. Before going for a laser hair removal, it is better to access these and be prepared for it. First lets have a look at the disadvantages of laser hair removal:

Disadvantages of laser hair removal:
The primary disadvantage for laser hair removal is highly dependent on the type of skin of the person undergoing the treatment. Dark hair and light skin is the best combination for laser hair removal technique the people with blonde, red, or gray hair. People with dark skin or with tanned skin could damage their skin because of high pigment levels in their skin.

Pigment eumelanin is present in dark hairs which absorbs laser energy effectively thus gets effective destruction of the hair follicle. Total cost of laser treatment on hairs is less for dark hairs and lighter skins due to higher effectiveness of laser on their hairs where as due to presence of pigment pheomelanin on blonde, gray and red hairs which have poor absorbing power for laser energy leads to costly treatment of the same. Extra treatment is required for these types of hairs. So, if you are one with other type of hair then be prepared for a long and extra cost for your hair removal with this technique.

Due to the varying growth cycle of the hairs, 4-8 treatments are required for a full hair removal. Now this also depends on the type of hair you process. 4-8 week interval is required between each treatment due to the same hair growth cycle. Hairs take 6-12 weeks to grow from base of the follicle to the surface of the skin.

Advantages of laser hair removal:
Larger areas can be treated in laser hair removal. It is quite safe and can be used on legs, arms, underarm, bikini line, face, and back. It is quite painless and one undergoing treatment could feel a slight burning sensation occasionally. This is one of the most long lasting hair removal treatments.

The cost for laser hair removal highly depends on the amount of space being treated, the hair color, and skin color. Go for only experienced laser treatment personnel or clinic. If the same is done by unskilled person could lead to burns, discoloration of the skin or patchy growth of hairs.
